Learn the basics of how to capture single frame nightscape images, equipment choices, how to focus, basic light painting, exposure times, camera settings and more.

The port City of Geraldton is famous for a number iconic land based structures, non more so than the Point Moore Lighthouse, situated on the western point surrounded by sand dunes and the colourful turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, our local photography guides will help you get the best vantage points to shoot the unique red and white striped structure which is a working lighthouse to this day, there are often Ospreys working the waters and can be found nested near by often seen perched on posts feeding on small fish held in their talons, so make sure you have a longer lens to capture if you are lucky.
The evening sunset tour of the lighthouse is best for those wonderful Mid West Sunsets although the clear blue skies of the day can produce wonderful images also.
HMAS Sydney II Memorial, is the jewel in the crown of memorials, its unique structures and pool of remembrance make for thoughtful reflections on those lost at sea when the HMAS Sydney II was sunk by the German Ship the Cormorant during WW2. The centre dome comprises of 645 stainless steel sea gulls one for each sailor lost from the HMAS Sydney II on Nov 19th 1941. The Geralton City Urban photo tour takes you on a urban walk around the CBD city sights, taking in the unique aspects of the city by the Indian Ocean.
Take a walk with our expert photographers who will show you the best photo opportunities taking in the Esplanade Lookout, where you can climb to the lookout platform and view Seal Rocks, photograph the seals as they Basque in the warm waters of the ocean, shoot a wide view of Champion Bay, and the vibrant City port exploring the wonderful modern architecture of the lookout and learn the history of the bay as you pass the wonderful information guides along the esplanade.
A short walk away is the older part of town known as the West End, adorned with an array of urban Graffiti and older pioneer buildings, café’s and local arts. Passing then along the foreshore abound with local art installations, turquoise waters and golden beaches. Finally walking to the Geraldton marina and board walk, adorned with small boats modern buildings and the unique Batavia Life Boat replica.

The mid west after rains in winter become a carpet of everlastings and more unique individual wildflowers. Spider Orchids adorned small reserves, along with a plethora of donkey ears and cowslips, on rare occasions the rare but beautiful Queen of Sheeba can be found.

With 122 unique atoll islands adorned with fisherman’s shacks and pristine reserves the colors will blow you away. The islands famous for the wreck of the East India Duch Fleet ship Batavia and the subsequent massacre on the island of angry ghosts .

Greenough just south of Geraldton, famous for the leaning Trees of Greenough Plains, and the first settlers to the region, has a wealth of Photo opportunities.
This mini 4 hour tour is sure to delight all levels of photography, we start with an early morning shoot of the famous Leaning tree while the light is soft and glowing. We then move on to Greenough Settlement for morning tea and scones and entry into the historic settlement, here you will find a find fine examples of yesteryear, managed by the national trust the buildings have uninterrupted access and house artifacts and museum items from pioneering days. Visit the old jail, the court room and officers quarters, the old school, municipal building and the quaint St Michaels Chapel and stained glass windows still used today for Sunday services. We will also visit the old Clinch’s Mill, an epic landmark that reminds us how life used to be. This tour allows for both landscape, and portrait opportunities in low light, with fascinating backdrops and textures.

St Francis Xavier Cathedral recently full renovated is another must see while visiting Geraldton and is best photographed late evening when the entire structure is illuminated just on dusk. The Cathedral complex was designed by Monsignor Hawes Priest (Architect) The foundation stone laid in 1916 and finally finished in 1938, the building is believed to be the Monsignors finest works. The unique building has a clock tower and bell tower, and splendid dome which when illuminated stands proud in enigmatic shape and form. There are many facets to the structure making for tremendous architectural photography.

The following terms and conditions represent the terms and conditions upon which you agree to participate in your nominated photography workshop or tour.
Definitions:-
To avoid doubt, throughout the terms and conditions, the following terms will have the corresponding meaning:-
“We” or “Mid West Photo Tours” or “MWPT” or “Us” means Mid West Photo Tours and its instructors, tour guides, assistants, agents, contractors, representatives and consultants;
“I” or “You” or “Participant (s)” means the person(s) participating in the tour;
“Tour” means the tour or workshop you wish to book and or purchase on the shop page or tour booking form on this website;
“Monies” or “Fee (s) ” means the cost of the Tour.
Tour Groups and Group Bookings
Tour operators and group bookings are to be placed via the Booking Form or directly with Mid West Photo Tours.
Minimum group bookings is four (4) persons.
Bookings need to be made no less than fourteen (14) days and paid in full.
Only after payment is received in full will the tour will be booked in for the date and time elected.
Tour group leaders, guides etc accompanying a tour group on a Mid West Photo Tours and looking after their tour group but not participating with the tour will be free of charge(FOC). Staff participating in the Tour in any form will need to pay.
Registration and Payment
Tour registration or booking fees must be paid in full by the invoice due date to confirm your place in the workshop. Once payment has been received, you will be sent email confirmation of receipt of your payment.
Age Classifications
The following classifications of age are provided for cost of tours:
Adult: Anyone age of 16 years or above.
Children: A child is classified as between the ages of 4-15 years inclusive.
Cancellation and Refund Policy
Full refunds of all monies paid will be made if a tour is cancelled by us, or if the tour is re-scheduled by us and you are unable to attend on the new date.
Cancellation by participants must be made in writing. If you cancel your paid booking prior to fourteen (14) days of the workshop date, the tour fee will be refunded less 25% of the fee.
No refund is available if you cancel within fourteen (14) days of the tour date.
Mid West Photo Tours is not responsible for any other costs which workshop participants may have incurred including but not limited to travel, car rental, insurance, photographic purchases and/or rentals.
Removal
Mid West Photo Tours reserves the right, without refund of any portion of booking fees, to refuse admission to or eject any person whose conduct is disorderly, who uses vulgar or abusive language or fails to comply with the rules, terms and conditions applicable to participants on the tour or by Mid West Photo Tours discretion . If you witness disorderly conduct or suspect a problem with a fellow participant please notify your Mid West Photo Tours tour guide.
Postponement Policy
If you have booked and paid for a tour and are unable to attend on the tour date, and if another or similar tour is offered at the time of transfer, you can choose to transfer your booking to the next tour. If the subsequent workshop is cancelled by Mid West Photo Tours, you will receive a refund less 25% of the tour fee. Please note that bookings cannot be transferred within fourteen (14) days of the tour date.
Physical Fitness
This workshop may be taken by anyone in good physical condition. As you will have to walk over irregular terrain, and carry equipment, you are encouraged to get in shape by exercising regularly. Please call us if you have any questions about your ability to do a particular trip. Once a trip has started and it is necessary for you to leave the trip because it is beyond your physical level, please note that there will be no refunds for any unused portion of the trip.
Medical
You must generally be in good health and it is vital that persons with medical problems make them known to us well before the workshop begins. Although all workshops carry a field safety kit containing general first aid items, it is understood that Mid West Photo Tours assumes no liability regarding provision of medical care or provision of medical advice in relation to the workshop. Trip members are urged to check their coverage to be sure it is adequate and to consult their physician prior to participating in the workshop.
Changes to Workshop Schedule
All tour schedules and plans are subject to change at our discretion depending upon weather, health and safety considerations, or any other factor related or unrelated to photographic opportunities as we see fit.
Privacy
Other than the standard internet data, Mid West Photo Tours does not collect or use any of your personal information unless specifically authorised or permitted pursuant to the Privacy Act 1988.
Limit of Liability
Mid West Photo Tours accept no liability for death, illness or injury or loss or damage to photo equipment or personal belongings during the course of the tour or in transit thereto.
We can accept no responsibility for losses or additional expenses due to delay or changes in the services to be provided. We reserve the right to change our arrangements should conditions necessitate, or to cancel any aspect of the workshop due to exceptional circumstances. In the event that we deem it necessary to cancel the workshop we will provide a full refund, which the participants acknowledge as full and final settlement. In the event of a workshop cancellation by Mid West Photo Tours, liability of Mid West Photo Tours to participants shall be limited to the total value of the workshop. Neither party shall be liable for indirect or consequential loss.
By joining any workshops offered by Mid West Photo Tours, participants acknowledge that they are aware of risks and are physically capable of safely taking part in the tour. Further, they release Mid West Photo Tours from any liability. Mid West Photo Tours will assume no liability for injury, illness or loss of personal property or expenses associated with participation in a tour.
Your Agreement to this Contract
By participating in the tours offered by Mid West Photo Tours, and in consideration for my being allowed to participate in the Tours, the receipt and sufficiency of which is hereby acknowledged, I, and if I am not yet 18 years old, my parent or legal guardian (individually and collectively referred to below in the first person singular) agree to be bound by each of the following provisions of this waiver, release of liability, indemnification, consent to medical attention and grant of rights (“Waiver”):
1. Voluntary Participation. I understand and confirm that my participation in the Tours is voluntary. I am in good health and suffer from no physical or mental condition that would make me especially susceptible to injury or disability while participating in the Tours.
2.Comprehension of Risk. I fully comprehend and accept all of the risks associated with my participation in the Tours including, without limitation, injury or death resulting from exposure to unfavorable weather conditions, food sickness, allergic reactions, choking, and injuries arising from self-inflicted accidents or mishaps, other participants, motor vehicles, and pedestrians. I understand that the Tours take place in public venues under conditions largely beyond Mid West Photo Tours control.
3.Assumption of Risk. I assume all risks, known and unknown, foreseeable and unforeseeable, in any way connected with my participation in the Tours. I accept personal responsibility for any liability, injury, loss, or damage in any way connected with my participation in the Tours.
4.Release of Liability; Limitation of Damages. I hereby forever and unconditionally release Mid West Photo Tours and its affiliated entities, parent companies, subsidiaries, present and former employees, owners, officers, members, managers, partners, contractors, insurers, shareholders, and directors (collectively “Released Entities”), from any and all claims, actions, damages, liabilities, losses, costs, and expenses (including, without limitation, attorney’s fees) for death, injury, loss or damage of property, (collectively “Claims”) in any way arising out of my participation in the Tours, including, without limitation, any and all Claims resulting from the negligence of the Released Entities. In no event shall Mid West Photo Tours be liable for any special, incidental, punitive, or consequential damages or other indirect damages, even if Mid West Photo Tours has been informed of the possibility thereof.
5.Consent to Medical Treatment. I authorise Mid West Photo Tours to provide to me, through medical personnel of its choice, customary medical assistance, transportation, and emergency medical services. This consent does not impose a duty upon Mid West Photo Tours to provide such assistance, transportation, or services.
6.Severability. If any provision of this Waiver is for any reason declared to be invalid or unenforceable, the validity and enforceability of the remaining provisions will not be affected. The invalid or unenforceable provision will be deemed modified to the extent necessary to render it valid and enforceable, and if no modification may render it valid and enforceable, this Waiver will be construed as if not containing such provision and the rights and obligations of the parties will be construed and enforced accordingly.
7.Promotional Release. I hereby grant to Mid West Photo Tours the unrestricted right and permission to copyright and use photographic portraits, pictures, video footage and/or audio recordings of my participation in the Tours, in which I may be included intact or in part, including the negatives, prints, transparencies or digital information relevant to such portraits.
THIS IS A WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY. I HAVE READ this entire document. I UNDERSTAND THAT I HAVE GIVEN UP SUBSTANTIAL RIGHTS BY Agreeing to its provisions. By continuing to participate in the tours, I am indicating my voluntary agreement to the provisions of this WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY. Participation in the tours by a person who is not yet 18 years old indicates that a parent or legal guardian has also read and consented to this waiver.
In reserving a place on the tour by paying the tour fee, you are agreeing to accept all the above conditions. The person who makes the booking does so on behalf of all the individuals included, and all are bound by these terms and conditions.
